Summer is here and it’s bathing suit season. I have always enjoyed being in a bathing suit, but as I get older and my body changes, it’s not as fun as it used to be. I was particularly weary of this season, after just having my first baby 7 months ago. The post pregnancy saggy skin on my tummy and what seem like gigantic breasts from nursing don’t give me that extra boost of confidence I used to have back in my twenties. Although my body has taken the most amazing transformation and somehow gotten back to being close to the same size and shape I was before….my body is different. I don’t think it will ever be the same. Nor should it!  I grew a life inside of me for 9 months and I will forever be changed for the better by that experience. Yet, it is still so easy to let that negative self-talk get into my head. I think it’s something that most women struggle with on a daily basis and most likely as my daughter gets older, it will be something she will be thinking about too.

Leading by example is the best way I can think of to guide her toward strong self worth and a positive body image. When Erin from RAW Beauty Talks approached me about participating in the #MyBeachBody Campaign, it was the perfect way to start the conversation and show not only my daughter, but all the women in my life that our bodies are already beach ready. The campaign goal is to redefine what the ‘perfect beach body’ is and to help women feel confident, no matter what size or shape they are, to enjoy the summer in their swimsuit and feel positive about their body.

I was honored to be among 10 other inspiring women who got in front of the camera and bared their bikini bodies in hopes to bring the women around them the confidence to be comfortable in their own skin. For more photos of Esti, I and the other beautiful ladies, as well as their inspiring words on what the perfect beach body means to them, view the full post here.

My fabulous red bathing suit was provided by Julia from Nettle’s Tale. This Vancouver-born bathing suit line is like nothing else I have seen before. Locally designed and manufactured, Nettle’s Tale uses everyday women in all of their marketing campaigns and refuses to use photoshop on any of the images. Everything you see is real! How refreshing is that?!

I was also lucky enough to connect with Stephanie from Tan Line Architects. This hot new online bathing suit shop has just opened up a pop up location in Gastown for the summer. Esti and I grabbed some matching one piece suits and I also picked up this little number!! Stephanie is committed to helping women feel good about their bodies through their RAW photography (none of the images use make up, editing or photoshop) so that women can spend all their mental energy on pursuing the things that matter most to them. Check them out at 315 Abbott Street, Vancouver.

Help us redefine what the perfect beach body looks like by sharing a filter-free, un-retouched photo of your perfectly imperfect body in a bathing suit with the hashtag #MyBeachBody. RAW Beauty Talks will repost your pics every week!
