This year we were blessed with the opportunity to travel to Mexico with Esti for my sister’s wedding in early November. We spent 5 gorgeous days celebrating with friends and family in Punta de Mita and then packed up and moved North to the beautiful surf town of Sayulita.
Traveling with kids is never easy, but we came prepared and planned ahead for smooth sailing the entire trip! During this post I am sharing some of our photos as well as my must-have travel items and advice when vacationing with little ones.
First up, photos of paradise. Welcome to Casa Los Arcos!
What did I say? Pure Paradise right?!
Casa Los Arcos was one of the best places we have ever vacationed!! A private 2 bedroom casa settled into the hillside over-looking the gorgeous town of Sayulita. It was our first time there and we had no idea what to expect, except that the online photos looked absolutely amazing. The gorgeous roof top deck was our regular hang out and we spent most of our time there with Esti. It was important to me that we brought a travel crib, as even though we had arranged for a crib rental, we were not sure exactly what the surroundings would be like and when it would come in handy. It was hands down the best item we brought with us!
Tip #1: Bring a play yard.
We chose the BABYBJÖRN Play Yard Light that we received from Westcoast Kids and could not have been more happy with it! The Play Yard Light only weighs 11 pounds and is one of the lightest on the market. We were able to check ours at the gate along with our umbrella stroller at no charge. Boy, did that come in handy when our flight was delayed three hours on our way home. We had it set up in the airport and Esti slept in it until our flight was eventually cancelled at midnight. It saved the day again when we were told there were NO cribs at the hotel we were transferred to for the night. We easily set it up in our hotel room and Esti had a great sleep! What I like the most about the BABYBJÖRN Play Yard is that it is so easy and light to transport with the wide strap carry-case and that it is very easy to set up and take down. I have also used it when working in the VONBON studio with Esti, which you can see here.
We really enjoyed being able to utilize the roof top deck with Esti in the Play Yard and felt that she was happy, comfortable and safe. She too, enjoyed the views and the warm ocean breeze without us having to hold her the entire time.
This trip we found that Esti was old enough (12 months) for us to bring an umbrella stroller, but on our past vacation with her, we also loved the BABYBJÖRN One Carrier. It made for really easy transitions through the airport and when sight-seeing in the city. With the 4-way front and back facing options, you and your child can be comfortable for long periods.
Tip #2: Rent the majority of your baby gear.
We decided to rent a crib, highchair, foam play mats and a bunch of toys from Baby Vallarta. It was such a pleasant experience and one I would highly recommend. The items were delivered to our condo before we even arrived, and everything was clean and in wonderful condition. When we finished our time in Punta de Mita the company picked up our items and transferred them to our new location in Sayulita. Again, they were there before we even walked through the door. There is no need to bring and carry more baby stuff than you need. We found that for this trip the play yard and the umbrella stroller were key items we didn’t want to be without and the rest we could just rent. We were so happy that we did!
Tip #3: Come prepared with healthy snacks.
Love Child Organics has saved me on numerous occasions when either Esti or I, have needed a snack on the go. They definitely came in handy with our airport delay. These perfect little pouches are one thing we always bring with us on trips, especially when flights are involved! We packed about 20 of them in our suitcase and a few in Esti’s carry-on bag for easy access on the flight. Full of certified organic ingredients and whole grains like quinoa, it was an easy way for us to know that Esti was getting what she needed while we were away. You can never be too sure of what’s on the menu when traveling in a different country. I’ve also been known to take down one or two when the “hangry” comes on hard!! Esti’s favorite flavor is the carrot, sweet potato, blueberries and apple. They also have some amazing new organic snacks that are perfect for distractions on a long plane ride.
Some other important things we brought along was our sound machine, Zoe Organics Diaper Balm ( amazing for rashes from wet bathing suits and swim diapers), and lots of little distractions for the flight. I purchased a selection of colored felt balls from the dollar store before we left. We played all sorts of different games with them. Like taking them in and out of Daddy’s hat, throwing them in the air, hide and seek, etc. They were silent, didn’t break if they were dropped and they were super light and easy to pack.
What also made this trip so special was that we celebrated Esti’s first birthday in Sayulita! If there is one tip I can give any new mom, it’s go on vacation for your child’s 1st birthday!!! There was no option of an over-the-top celebration where I would just end up stressed out and too busy styling a desert table and serving guests to enjoy the day with my sweet babe. Don’t get me wrong, I love a pretty party as much as the next girl!!! Instead, we spent the day splashing in the pool and playing in the sand, enjoying every ounce of her. We purchased a hand-made pom-pom garland from one of the local vendors for her 1st birthday photo and let her dig into a small piece of cheesecake that we found available at a local restaurant. It was the perfect day.
What better way to keep the celebration going than to giveaway our favorite BABYBJÖRN Play Yard Light to one lucky winner!! This would be the perfect item for the upcoming holiday travel season, or to gift to new or expecting parents at Christmas. Either way, be sure to ENTER TO WIN below and happy travels with your little ones!
